Popping Tips

What's the best way to store popcorn?

Airtight containers —plastic or glass —are your best bet to avoid moisture loss, especially when stored in a cool place like a cupboard. Avoid the refrigerator because many refrigerators contain little moisture and can dry out kernels.

Neudale Farm popcorn kernels can be used with stove top poppers such as the Whirley Pop, electric stir poppers, air poppers, microwave poppers, and Campfire/Grill Popcorn Poppers. After it's popped, our popcorn can be seasoned with salt and melted butter, or any large variety of your favorite seasonings.

Stove Top

Pour 1 Tbsp cooking oil of your choice into Whirley Pop or heavy saucepan. We suggest high heat oils like coconut, canola, peanut,

safflower or grapeseed. Do not use oils labelled "virgin" as they will burn when you make your popcorn.  Add 2 or 3 kernels and heat over medium high heat. The oil is ready when the kernels pop.  Add 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels, or enough kernels to cover the bottom of your pan. Shake/stir the pan to keep kernels from burning and to coat each with oil. Your corn is done when the explosive sounds stop. Immediately remove the kettle from stove and pour into a large serving bowl and enjoy.

Air Poppers

Air poppers by their nature, can generate flying kernels,  Heat your air popper without anything in it, for about 2 minutes.  Add kernels to heated air popper and allow kernels to pop completely.

Campfire/Grill Popcorn Popping

You'll need a long-handled metal basket.  Put ¼ to 1/3 cup of kernels into the basket. Hold the basket over the flame, high enough so the kernels won't burn before they pop, and shake the handle to keep the kernels moving inside the basket.

Microwave Poppers

A variety of microwave popcorn poppers are available.

Pop in a brown paper bag:  Start by tossing 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels with 1/2 teaspoon oil in small bowl.  Place the popcorn kernels in bag.   Fold the top of the bag down three times, making sure to leave plenty of room inside the bag for the popped kernels. Microwave the bag on HIGH for 3-4 minutes.
